C\u00edrculo E\u00e7a de Queiroz kicked off its cultural calendar with a guided tour of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) in Chiado. The event, organized by the Circle\u2019s Cultural Council, was attended by the museum\u2019s director, Em\u00edlia Ferreira, who led members and guests through the museum\u2019s collection of Portuguese contemporary art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, participants explored the museum\u2019s permanent exhibition as well as two temporary exhibitions currently on display at MNAC. \u201cIt was an experience that allowed us to revisit key moments in Portuguese art, understanding its evolution and impact on the country\u2019s cultural identity,\u201d said Ant\u00f3nio Ayres Gon\u00e7alves, President of the Cultural Council of the C\u00edrculo E\u00e7a de Queiroz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founded on May 26, 1911, MNAC emerged from the split of the former National Museum of Fine Arts and has played a crucial role in preserving and promoting Portuguese contemporary art. Its history includes significant moments such as its reconstruction after the 1988 fire and the expansion of its exhibition space in 2015, which led to the creation of the Capelo Wing. Under the direction of Em\u00edlia Ferreira since 2017, the museum has strengthened its mission of promoting and valuing 19th-century and modernist art, establishing national and international partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
