The Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, argued at the Eça de Queiroz Circle that the future of economic growth in Portugal must be based on a clear commitment to innovation, productivity and sustainability. “Economic growth – which Portugal is currently experiencing – requires innovation and sustainability”, he stated during a dinner-debate promoted by the Portugal XXI association, at the CEQ, in Lisbon.
In front of an audience composed of businesspeople, academics and decision-makers, Pedro Reis highlighted the importance of consistent public policies and effective implementation to face the challenges of a rapidly changing global context. “This type of reflection is essential for the quality of public debate”, stated António Martins da Costa, president of the Eça de Queiroz Circle.
“Talking about sustainable economic growth means, above all, talking about long-term choices and responsibility. Our role is to help ensure that these choices are discussed in a pluralistic and in-depth manner”, highlighted the president of CEQ, regarding the relevance of the debate’s theme in line with the Circle’s mission. The meeting took place at a time when the country is seeking to position itself strategically in the face of the challenges of the digital transition, the green economy and attracting foreign investment, issues that promise to mark the economic agenda in the coming years.
